March 1st, 2009
Hi all,
It has been a busy month and there are a few important things to say before the March Newsletter goes out.
First, UQ Boxing Club member Dave Matson will be competing at Beenleigh Arena next Saturday the 3rd of March. This will be Dave’s second fight and he is keen to extend his current undefeated record. As usual it would be great to get as many people to the event as possible. If you want to come along and need a ride, please send an email to uqboxing@hotmail.com or if you are going to be driving and have some spare room in your car, please send an email to the same address letting us know where you will be heading from and how many passengers you can bring. Again, as usual, let’s meet at the Regatta at around 4pm before heading off to the fights at 5pm.
Second, the Polish Club dinner and after drinks at the Regatta were a huge success. Over 50 people came for dinner with a similar number hitting up the Regatta for drinks. The crowd was mostly well behaved (remarkable for the amount of drinks consumed) so thanks everyone.
Third, members now have the option of paying their training fees monthly ($40), half-yearly ($150, valid to 22nd July) or yearly ($275, valid to 31st December). If you would like to take up one of these options, you can do so at any coached session.
Fourth, if you bought your membership last year it will expire on the 26th February, this Monday. Please re-new your membership as soon as possible.
Lastly, please remember to keep Wednesday the 7th March free to watch the Mundine vs. Soliman fight with UQ Boxing Club. Details to come…
February 23rd, 2007
This Saturday 3rd of February, UQ Boxing Club member Adrian Andrews will be competing in a challenge bout for a spot on the QLD team. It is a great achievment that Adrian is in a position to compete for a place on the team, and it would be fantastic if all UQ Boxing Club members came to his upcoming fight to cheer him on for a win.
The competition will be held at Shamrock Boxing Club, Wises Rd, Maroochydore:
Click on the Venue Address Map to get an idea of where it is.
[Make sure you copy and paste all of the above into your web browser]
Given that Maroochydore isn’t exactly just around the corner for most members, UQBC is trying to organise a car pool system.
Please send an email to Uqboxing @ Hotmail.com if you want to come along.
Please also include:
1. If you will be driving and can can carry passengers. Please include how many people you can take and from what general area you will be leaving.
2. If you want to come along but need a ride.
It will take around an hour to get to the venue. To make things easier for everyone, lets meet at the Regatta at 4pm with an aim to leaving there at around 4.30pm and getting to the fights at 6pm.

2007 Fees
Training fees:
The $5 fee is a facilities fee. This money is primarily used to pay for room
hire but is also used to cover the coaching fees and equipment replacement.
All members attending training during these times must pay the facilities
fee, even if choosing not to participate in either of the coaching programs.
There will also be the option of paying for 6 or 12 months of training fees.
The exact cost of these options is still being determined, but they are
expected to be around $150 and $250.
Membership fees:
$30 for 6 months (to 22nd July if paying in first semester, or to 31st
December if paying in second semester)
$50 for yearly membership (valid to 31st December)
If paying for 12 months membership and buying a 12 month training pass, the
total cost is $300. Over that time there are around 190 training sessions.
If attending only half the total number of sessions, it works out to cost
around $3.20 for each session - cheap!
Other Information
The first hour of training is a boxing fitness workout with assistant
coaches. The session revolves around getting people fit enough to ‘compete’
(though people do not actually have to compete). The workouts will be high
intensity includes using all equipment, bags, pads, etc. The ring won’t be
set up in the first hour of training. The coaches running the fitness class
will demonstrate correct technique on all exercises but during the first
hour there will not be any formal technical drills.
The second hour of training will be an hour of technical training with the
head coach. This session revolves around getting people good enough to
‘compete’. This will be a technical session with drills, sparring, and
expert boxing advice.
If you work correctly during the first session, the expectation is that you
will not be participating in the skills session. Saying this, however, no
one will be asked to leave after the first hour. The idea is that:
1. If you work hard in the first hour, you should not have the energy left
to do any more work.
2. If you want to compete (that is, come in the second hour), you should be
doing most of your fitness work in your own time and at the non-coached
sessions.
At no time will members be refused entry to either of these sessions, but to
maximise your training and the available coaching staff, it is recommended
that when you come to training, you do a good solid hour of training, either
fitness or technical.
